Background and Position Summary:

Our client is a leading, regionally and nationally accredited non-profit online university that has significantly expanded access to higher education for working adults throughout the United States.  Degrees are based on demonstrating essential competencies through carefully designed assessments.

 

We are seeking a senior Human Capital executive who is passionate about aligning the human resources function with the strategic business goals of the organization; developing and tracking key success metrics; offering proactive talent solutions to pressing business needs; and developing total rewards programs that result in an energized, engaged and excited workforce.

 

Serving as a key member of the senior management team for strategy and development, the Vice President of Human Capital will support the mission of the university through: developing the human capital strategy, including the organizational structure, assessing management needs, and leading training/developing initiatives; building relationships with business partners and a rapidly expanding distributed workforce of professionals throughout the country; instilling trust with all levels of management; and fostering collaboration to build mutually beneficial solutions across the organization.  The Vice President will understand how to develop human capital and instill strong performance-based metrics and cultural values across all employee categories (both in-office and remote).  The Vice President will lead the effort to cultivate the internal and external employer brand to promote this rapidly growing organization as an employer of choice.


Primary Responsibilities:

 

This scope of this key leadership role goes well beyond that of managing a day-to-day Human Resources function.  The Vice President of Human Capital will:

 

  • Succession Planning:  Develop programs to prepare current employees to assume leadership roles, improve employees’ support and performance, and expand professional development opportunities.

 

  • Organizational Planning Strategy:  Participate in the development of the organization’s plans and programs as a strategic partner.  Establish and implement short and long term department goals, objectives, policies, and operating procedures. 

 

  • Total Rewards Strategy:  Lead the comprehensive assessment, design, development and implementation of employee and executive compensation strategy and programs to provide motivation and to ensure competitive salary levels and regulatory compliance.  Negotiate and oversee employee benefit programs including medical, dental, life and disability insurance, supplemental medical and paid time off programs.  Evaluate and recommend improvements to benefits programs.

 

  • Management Training:  Develop programs and supporting materials to train new managers and prepare managers to face the wide array of challenges involved in supervising people and managing systems and projects.

 

 

Qualifications, Experience and Skills:

 

Educational Requirements: Bachelors Degree in Human Resources, Management, business, or related field required; Master’s Degree preferred; SHRM/PHR, CCP, CBP, and/or CEBS certifications would be valued.

Experience: 12 + years of proven human resources leadership experience.

Key Skills: Strong analytical skills; experience in measurement, data analysis, and interpretation are essential. Strong history of quickly building relationships, gaining credibility, and partnering with business leaders and human capital peers are needed. Proven track record of building and managing a successful customer-centric Human Resources team. Proven background in growing an organization.  Superb business judgment and persuasion skills with the ability to derive actionable items from broad business issues.  Excellent ability to conceptualize and help develop the departmental vision and strategy.  Ability to successfully analyze and resolve problems at both a strategic and functional level.  Ability to organize and manage multiple assignments and priorities.  Ability to interact with key internal constituents on strategic initiatives.
